India test fired the indigenous subsonic cruise missile Nirbhaya off today from Odisha coast today on Tuesday (7th November 2017) from the ITR, Integrated Test Range at Chandipur in Odisha’s Balasore. The missile has an exceptional strike range of 1000km giving it an edge over the other available missiles.
The missile Nirbhaya was test fired from a specially designed launcher from launch complex 3 of the Integrated Test Range (ITR), the defense sources said. The newest missile of its kind has brought expectations for the country and it’s safety. Also, Nirbhaya is expected to supplement the Indo Russian joint venture in the future.
The Indo Russian joint venture I expected to be supplement by this supersonic cruise missile BrahMos, which can carry warheads up to 290 km. The missile is said to be traveled along a pre-designated flight path and homed in on the target by the sources.
Powered by a solid rocket motor booster, Nirbhaya with a turbofan engine is guided by a highly advanced inertial navigation system . Nirbhaya is also miraculously capable of carrying 24 kinds of war weapons. It can also target multiple places simultaneously.
This is the 5th launch of missile in the last 5 years. Also notably out of last four three had failed. Nirbhaya has succeeded in the 2nd test it went through in the year 2014.
